Jim “Jimmy Van Halen” Starcevich, founder of Team Mercer County grew up in Matherville, IL where he could always be found with his dad in the garage or on the field playing whatever sport was in season.  Jim excelled in all sports but found that football and baseball were his favorite.  Playing both sports throughout high school and continuing his career at Monmouth College where he was an All-Conference outfielder for the Fighting Scots Baseball Team, he didn’t find his love for hunting until he was in Jr. High when he was asked to go hunting with some local hunters.  From that day on, he was hooked on the outdoors.

Today, although he still finds his way to the timber in the fall, he can be found up and down the Mississippi River chasing catfish all spring and summer long.  Entering numerous tournaments during the year chasing Trophy Blue Catfish all over the country, Jim has established himself as a contender anywhere he puts his boat in the water.  Learning to fish with his dad off the banks of Matherville Lake, Jim now passes his love of the outdoors and fishing on to his son Maxx.

Jim is currently employed by the United States Department of Defense as a Sr. Logistics Specialist and lives in New Windsor, IL with his wife Andrea and their son Maxx.
